Roundtable

Oquirrh Mountain: Roundtable

Second Thursday at 7:00 pm

(6:30 pm - Fast start training for new leaders)

The purpose of roundtable is to provide unit leaders with the skills, techniques, information, and program ideas that will help that leader to be successful. It is also a place for the leader to find the will the will to do, to increase their enthusiasm, their inspiration and their vision to develop an exciting and effective Scouting program for the youth in their local community.

Who Attends Roundtables?

Roundtable is designed for all unit leaders.

1. Cub Scout leader roundtables are for Cubmasters, den leaders, Webelos den leaders, all assistants, and pack committee members.

2. Boy Scout leader roundtables are for Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, and troop committee members.

3. Venturing forums are for adult crew leaders. On occasion, youth officers should attend also.

Here are five reasons why you will want to attend Roundtable every month:

  1. You will receive specific helps they can be used during the coming month.

  2. There is a separate, helpful session for each program phase. Cub Scouting people are not much interested in discussing Boy Scouting, nor do Venturing leaders want to spend the evening watching Cub Scout demonstrations.

  3. There is a genuine sense of fellowship.

  4. Learning is largely by doing or watching instead of just listening. The ideal Roundtable is to let the unit leader watch and then practice.

  5. A dependable schedule is maintained. This means both a regular night and a regular hour for opening and closing. Roundtables early in the month allow time for other steps in unit program planning before the end of the month.

Training

"Every Boy Deserves a Trained Leader" ~Lord Baden Powell

As a Boy Scout adult leader, you have the wonderful opportunity of impacting the lives of the young men under your stewardship. Receiving leadership training will help you reach your full potential as you offer quality programs to your boys. This training will be an asset to you as you work in other leadership areas in your life.

Training is offered in several formats, one of which is in-person training. We are offering several of those trainings within our district boundaries during a year. The cost is $5.00, it includes snacks and a bolo.

Saturday, August 18th. 7:30-11:30 am. 5000 W Pavant Ave. There is training available for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, COR, or Commissioner Leaders. This includes primary and young men leaders.

Saturday, October 27th. 8:00 am-12:00. 3900 South 4000 West. This is the Merit Badge Fair and we will be offering Scoutmaster training only.

Thursday, November 29th. 6:00-9:30 pm 1510 Parliament Ave (3935 South) There is training available for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, COR, or Commissioner Leaders. This includes primary and young men leaders.

Saturday, November 10th. – University of Scouting will offer basic leader training for all Scout Leaders.

If you are unable to attend an in-person training, you can do on-line training at my.scouting.org. This is the same website where youth protection must be taken before adult leaders participate in any activity with the boys. You will create a log-in that will be used for all your training. This is also where you will see your trainings recorded for future reference.
