FRIENDS OF SCOUTING
The annual Friends of Scouting campaign provides Scouters, parents, alumni, businesses, and community members with an opportunity to support the programs and facilities of the Great Salt Lake Council.
The true cost of Scouting is much greater than what local dues or event and camping fees cover. Yearly registration fees directly support the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and help provide program development and research, literature and other resources. The Friends of Scouting Campaign gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to contribute to the Great Salt Lake Council on an annual basis.
Your generous tax deductible gift to the Great Salt Lake Council, which provides direct funding for Scouting’s life-changing programs, is a statement about your belief in Scouting and helping young people grow into successful adults.
Please help keep Scouting strong by making an investment in our community’s future and help ensure the continued legacy of Scouting in the Great Salt Lake Council.
The Great Salt Lake Council hosts a variety of special events throughout the year to raise funds and awareness of Scouting in Utah. From Golf Classic to our annual Holiday Auction, these events provide an excellent opportunity for individuals and corporations to show their support of Scouting while enjoying high-end events and second to none networking opportunities.
The Great Salt Lake Council’s Capital Campaign supports and serves the Scouts, parents and leaders of our Council. Please take time to consider contributing. Read below to see your support in action.
Thomas S. Monson Scout Leadership & Service Center
After over half a century of serving the community at the Foothill location, we are excited to have a new opportunity to serve in a new way.
Foothill met the needs of the council when it was built, and for many years after. But with the growth of the Scouting program, the age of the old Service Center, parking problems, and growth of population in our council territory outside of downtown Salt Lake, a move became necessary.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints saw that need too, and helped us by purchasing the Foothill building, giving us nearly four acres of land in West Valley City, and building the road and utilities into our Center.
The Lake Park location will give us an opportunity to build not another “office”, but an activity and learning center for youth, leaders, and the community. In a place nearer to our growing and diverse markets and much more accessible from all parts of the council.
Scouting leaders, Scouts, families, and the community will find the services they need here - and all in the same place. The service desk, Scout Shop, and meeting/training rooms are together and not spread all over the building. We are planning for learning and activity sessions for youth and leaders here almost daily. And new Scouting units can meet here as they get organized.
The ground floor will be the service and learning area of the new Center
The upper floor will have additional meeting/training space, and will be where the council staff works to support programs for over 100,000 members of Scouting and thousands of community organizations that charter Scouting units in our area.
Essential support services for our members, volunteers, camps, and programs will be found on the second floor of the Center.
The new Scout Leadership and Service Center will be a base of activity and learning for tens of thousands of Scouts, their leaders, and family members for generations to come.
The Center will be named in honor of President Thomas S. Monson and his lifetime of work for Scouting.
President Monson was the longest serving member of the BSA’s National Executive Board and the recipient of the highest honors in BSA and worldwide Scouting.
Few. if any, have done as much for Scouts of all faiths and nations and we feel it is important to name the “Scout Office” in his home council in his memory.
All donors to the Thomas S. Monson Scout Leadership and Service Center project will be recognized, if they wish, on the Legacy Wall in the lobby in the Center. Major donors may be also recognized with the naming of certain significant parts of the Center.
