Come voice your questions, concerns, & thoughts at our Future of Scouting Townhalls
Immediately following the joint announcement from the Boy Scouts of America & the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regarding the change in relationship between the two beginning on January 1, 2020, questions began flooding in. Questions like:
How can my child become an Eagle Scout if the Church is no longer chartering units?
What happens if my Scout transfers to another unit? Will he lose his current advancement progress?
How do units not chartered by the Church function?
We also have been receiving many questions regarding how Scouting will function with the inclusion of girls in Scouts BSA beginning on February 1, 2019:
Are the Boy Scouts coed?
How will units function if they choose to allow both boys & girls?
What if I want my child to be in a single gender unit?
These are great questions! They are understandable as well. We're entering new territory and it's exciting. So this transition will be a new adventure for many.
But with so many questions & doubts swirling about within our membership, we decided that we needed to have face-to-face opportunities to address those concerns clearly.
So that's why we have decided to hold townhalls throughout our council.
Each townhall will feature a panel of volunteers & professional Scouters who will be able to walk you through what has happened so far in 2018, how it affects Scouting in your community, & what the plans are moving forward. These panelists are just as passionate about Scouting as you are. They'll make sure that you come away from the townhall excited for what the future holds for the Boy Scouts of America & its members.
What To Expect
We begin each townhall by addressing the common questions we are receiving on a daily basis from volunteers like you & community members.
The townhall is then opened up for questions from those in the audience as well as those submitted online. The panelists will do their best to answer all questions posed to them.
When we close the townhall we will invite you to visit with the other attendees as well as visit the tables of local units that will continue to exist beyond 2019. You'll also be able to dual register your Scout with a unit at the townhall if you find a unit that you are interested in participating in.
Opportunity To Recruit
We have many units in our council that will continue to provide a Scouting experience beyond 2019. We also know that we have plenty of Scouts who will be looking for a place to continue their Scouting experience. So we are allowing units that are actively recruiting to fill their units to set up a table with information at our townhalls.
