Scouting For Food, take it to your local Harmons Grocery Store
This coming Saturday, March 16th, thousands of Scouts will wake up early to perform an impressive act of service in collecting over 1 million pounds of food to donate to the Utah Food Bank. We are grateful for your willingness to reach outside yourself to make a difference in the lives of children, elderly, and a wide variety of other folks who are going without meals because they can’t afford to feed themselves or their families.
Do you remember when you were a kid, coming home from school feeling like you were starving? School requires a lot of energy; mentally, physically, and socially. And it’s not a surprise that kids come home famished. But this week, thousands of Utah kids are coming home to empty cupboards. The reasons are many and varied, and really don’t matter as much as the fact that kids who need nourishment aren’t getting it. Our hearts go out to these kids who feel the same as other kids coming home from school but can’t get the food they need or want.
For those who are motivated primarily by self-interest rather than altruism, would it surprise you to learn that most violent crimes and other criminal behaviors are committed by youth and adults who don’t have enough healthy food to eat? Contributing to the nutrition of our neighbors has a direct connection to safer neighborhoods.
As you probably know, Scouts will come by on the morning of Scouting For Food to collect your generous donation. Unfortunately, some homes get missed. Scouts don’t intend to miss you. Mistakes just happen.
So what can you do to make sure that your donation ends up at the Utah Food Bank? If you have noticed that your donation is still sitting on your porch between 10am and noon on that Saturday, you can take your donation to the nearest Scouting For Food drop off location. You can get more information about those here.
Or you can take your donation to your neighborhood Harmons Grocery, or directly to the Utah Food Bank by Monday following the food drive. Whatever you do, please make sure that you take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity to help your neighbors, your local food pantry, and yourself by giving generously to Scouting for Food.
