Commissioners: Awards & Recognition

Awards and Recognition

Recognition has been a fundamental concept in Scouting from its beginning. Done right, it's a powerful tool that celebrates commitment and achievement, personal and team goal-setting and skill development. Knots, pins, patches and certificates may not be important to all commissioners, but serving more kids better is.  Here are some of the awards and recognition available to commissioners.

Commissioning Ceremony & Certificate

One thing that differentiates commissioners from other volunteers is that commissioners are “commissioned” just like the professional staff. To be commissioned means to be held accountable for something. Commissioners are held accountable for the quality of the Scouting program, and each commissioner should take an oath to that effect.

There are several sample commissioning ceremony scripts available for your use. Each commissioner should also be provided with a commissioning certificate.
